He was a member of 3 Mesa National Poetry Slam Teams. He produced the live DVD recording "Patrick Hare Hates You".
Anthology Executive Director Information- How to let us know you are interested

Hi all-

For those that may be a little out of the loop, this weekend, I indicated to the Board of Directors of Anthology, Inc. that I would be tenuring my resignation effective June 1 of this year. I posted in detail about the why's here:

http://www.anthology.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=73

That means that now, we need to find a new Executive Director for the organization. That's part of the reason you have received this message.

Anthology's 501c3 designation alone is important enough for us to make this change work, but there is so much more than that. We have a solid community of people working within the framework of Anthology to present to the greater Phoenix community a uniform message, a pointed message to compete with the unique challenges of Phoenix as a city to have arts in.

If you have received this message, I'm asking you to give it some thought, serious consideration, maybe for yourself, maybe for someone that you know that can effectively organize and plan and manage. What exactly would you need to do to be Executive Director of Anthology? here are some Q&A's I've received since I announced the position opening:

Q: Would I have to do everything you do?
A: No. As the Executive Director, you set the agenda for the organization, you decide what the priorities are, where to spend money, where not to spend money. You can reduce the committments of the organization as much as you'd like, or conversely, take the organization to new places if you so choose. Your major guide is the Anthology mission statement:

"Anthology’s mission is to promote performance poetry and associated literary arts in the greater Phoenix community by providing opportunities for artists to perform their work and by making spokenword arts accessible to a diverse audience."

Q: Are you Quitting? Can I ask you for help?
A: You can ask me for help. I will be on the Board of Directors and available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to answer questions and provide guidance on the things I have learned these last 14 years. It's important to understand that it will be YOUR organization, to plan and act as you see fit, with the Board as your support to guide you and fundraise for you, and make sure that the organization is staying true to it's mission.

Q: If I want to be considered, what will I need to do?
A: Well, first- think about it. There are some awesome volunteers that give of themselves every day in time, money and rescources to make Anthology what it is. They are the customers of the Executive Director, and the people that you would work for. If it sounds like the challenge you want to take on-

Think about why?
What you would want to do?
What's your plan?

Write it down.

Send it to me in an email. It can be as long or as short as you want it to be. I'll collect them all and pass them on to the Board of Directors.

Q: Are you going to choose the new ED?
A: No. I am sure that I'll have input, but in the end, the decision will rest with 2 groups of people: The current volunteers and The Board of Directors.

Q: When will we know?
A: April 20th is the deadline to send me your note. I'll send the info on to the Board and Volunteers, who will give back their feedback and selections. Assuming all goes well, the Board of Directors will announce the selection April 30th, effective June 1st. The month of May will be a "Training Month".

Q: I'd like to talk to some of the Board members or Volunteers, can I?
A: Certainly. Here are the current board members as well as volunteers and their emails:

Jordan Dorf, Director
jordandorf@yahoo.com

Trish Justrish
trish_justrish@yahoo.com

Bill Campana
willycam@yahoo.com

Bernard Schober
therealklute@yahoo.com

Sharon Skinner
sharon@sharonskinner.com

Bob Nelson
bob@anthology.org

There is one open Board position.

Volunteers-

Jeremiah Blue, Downtown Poetry Slam Slammaster
jsblue@gmail.com

Arrian Wissel, Communications Director
airwissel@gmail.com

Christy White, Volunteer Coordinator
cchristy1@prodigy.net

Kelsey Miller, VOY Coordinator
kelsey.n.miller@gmail.com

Q: Should I still apply, even if I think "so and so" is better?
A: Absolutely. Not only will we fill the ED position, but we will most likely have a Board position or two to fill, and the candidates we'll talk to are the people that express interest in the ED position.

Q: Can I get paid?
A: Yes, you could. But the organization would have to be doing well enough to have the money to pay you. While 2007 was Anthology's best year ever, right now, the organization would not be able to pay anyone. However, there is nothing that says you can't work the organization to be strong enough to pay a salary.

Q: I'm not a poet, can I apply?
A: Yes. The skills needed for being an ED are about working with people and helping them succeed.

Q: What is I have more questions?
A: Ask 'em. Use the forum, so we can share the answers with everyone.

This is an opportunity to align the work of the last 14 years for the next 10 or 20 years. I look forward to hearing from you.

Bob Nelson
bob@anthology.org
www.boboratory.com

Director, Anthology, Inc.
PO Box 4411
Mesa, AZ 85211
www.anthology.org
(480) 461-8200

Anthology’s mission is to promote performance poetry and associated literary arts in the greater Phoenix community by providing opportunities for artists
to perform their work and by making spokenword arts accessible to a diverse audience. More information on Anthology and how you can become a member can be found at http://www.anthology.org .
